The United Nations have declaired the year of 2026 “The International Year of the Woman Farmer.”
Well. Being a woman farmer, I just have to do something to promote that. So we decided to hold a Competition for designers to design a sweater for the women farmers all over the world, but of course with Icelandic Wool Yarn. Here are some informations about the competition:
The goal is to design an Icelandic lopapeysa to honour women who are farmers.
Women are very important part of the countrysides and farming. Not only in Iceland, but every country. They have farmed, taken care of homes, children, bred livestock, grown vegetables and flowergardens as well as taking care of public introduction of farms and farmwork, their products and those are only few tasks that can be mentioned when talking about what a woman farmer does.
However, when talking about a farmer, a man very often pops to the mind. But farmers are indeed both men and women, like my father used to say; „Women are also men!“
So it is long overdue that women farmers are honoured in this way and we at Uppspuni want to be a load on that scale to promote the honour.
Therefore we blow the whistle for a competition. A designer‘s competition for the WOMAN FARMER‘S LOPAPEYSA. Everyone can participate, but of course the yarn needs to be with Icelandic wool and preferably made in Iceland.
The judges team will be a group of knitters and designers that are not too close to Uppspuni.
